After working as the director and front-of-house operations for the Des Moines Community Playhouse for over a decade, Ms. Hansen completed a Bachelor of Arts in sociology at Simpson College. She began working for the Des Moines Art Center as an education coordinator. While leveraging her expertise with the Des Moines Art Center, she also served as co-chair of Restoration Ingersoll. Many years later, Ms. Hansen transitioned from the for-profit to the nonprofit sector, serving as the RSVP and foster grandparent program director for the United Way of Central Iowa.
Driven to further her already varied knowledge, Ms. Hansen received a Master of Public Administration from Drake University in 2001. She gained valuable expertise as the executive director of The Des Moines Neighborhood Resource Office. Drawing on years of experience in the nonprofit industry, she currently excels in her role with Rebuilding Together Greater Des Moines, which provides home repairs, including floor repairs, window installations, kitchen cabinet installations, and wheelchair ramps for those in need. As executive director, Ms. Hansen manages staff, fundraising, finances, auditing, vendor and contract management, social media marketing and advertising, and building maintenance.
In addition to her work, Ms. Hansen contributes to her community as president and chair of the City of Des Moines Housing Services Board and has been on the Des Moines Community Playhouse board since 2021. Given her professional achievements, she won the Citizen of the Year Award from the Des Moines Police Department and a Neighborhood Leadership Award from the Greater Des Moines Partnership in 2008. Subsequently, Ms. Hansen was honored with a 30 Under 30 Award from Simpson College and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Hansen takes the most pride in contributing to the betterment of her community by assisting more than 4,000 families during her 15 years with the organization. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to her desire to help others. In the coming years, Ms. Hansen intends to continue working with Rebuilding Together while ensuring its stability and remaining open to new opportunities.
