Her multifaceted role encompasses liaising with the technical director, securing housing for players, establishing a nonprofit arm for fundraising, and engaging with marketing firms for promotional efforts. She has also been managing kit production and training equipment orders, coordinating game-day logistics, and fostering relationships with sponsors. More recently, Ms. Thomas has also been proactive by interviewing construction companies for a new facility.
Before her current role, Ms. Thomas served as the director of Softball at SWAT from 2013 to 2022. In this capacity, she honed her leadership skills and deepened her understanding of sports management. Her tenure at SWAT laid a solid foundation for her subsequent endeavors in soccer club ownership.
Building upon her educational foundation and personal experiences as a collegiate athlete, Ms. Thomas has been a staunch advocate for female empowerment in sports. The establishment of Sioux Falls City Football Club was driven by a desire to provide opportunities for female soccer players and address gender disparities within athletics. The club's integrity, inclusivity, mental health awareness, and equity values are deeply ingrained in its operations. Ms. Thomas's vision also extends to revolutionizing women's sports by ensuring fair compensation while winning the WPSL championship and establishing South Dakota's first women's professional soccer team.
Outside of her daily professional goals, Ms. Thomas enjoys serving on various local boards, such as the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, as its board president. She is also active as a mentor for the Augustana University Master of Public Administration program and supports nonprofits like Moms Demand Action, Together Rising, and Black Girl Freedom Fund. Most honorably, Ms. Thomas's football club has commissioned warm-up jerseys, which were auctioned off to benefit a local mental health service provider in Sioux Falls and Call to Freedom South Dakota, an organization that combats human trafficking. The Sioux Falls City Football Club also contributes to other organizations its players advocate to raise awareness for various causes.
Ms. Thomas's academic background includes an undergraduate degree in exercise science from Augustana University in Sioux Falls in 1996 and a Master of Science in exercise physiology and cardiac rehabilitation from Northeastern Illinois University in 1997. To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Thomas is a member of the United Soccer Coaches.
Under Ms. Thomas's stewardship, Sioux Falls City Football Club was recognized as Franchise of the Year for the Northern Conference by the Women's Premier Soccer League Central Region in 2023. Additionally, she was recognized with a nomination for a Women of Excellence in Award in 2024.
