Backed by years of medical expertise in coronary bypass surgery, lung cancer surgery, robotic lung surgery, and heart valve surgery, Dr. Obney excels as a staff physician at Fairfield Medical Center. This nonprofit acute care facility has served patients for over 100 years. In this capacity, he performs two or three surgeries daily, follows up with patients regarding post-operation consults, and conducts rounds with his team. In addition to his work with Fairfield Medical Center, Dr. Obney is a staff cardiothoracic surgeon with the Mount Carmel Medical Group in Columbus, Ohio.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Obney gained valuable expertise as section chief of cardiac surgery at James Haley VA Hospital while maintaining a teaching position at the University of South Florida. Over the years, he climbed the ranks at James Haley VA Hospital as chief of cardiac surgery and the deputy chief of the surgery department. Between 1993 and 2006, Dr. Obney also dedicated himself to his country through the United States Army. He rose through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant colonel and serving on the frontlines of Operation Iraqi Freedom

An expert in his field, Dr. Obney holds a bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Jurisprudence in healthcare law, policy, and management from Texas AandM University's School of Law. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing an MD at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. He was dedicated to advancing his medical skills and pursued a residency and fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center. Driven to remain abreast of ongoing industry changes, he aligns himself with the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons. In conjunction with his work, Dr. Obney devotes himself to the American Heart Association.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Obney takes the most pride in raising his two children, practicing medicine for over 20 years, and training in robotic surgery. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to his work ethic, his parents, and his mentors, Dr. R. Russell Martin, Dr. Phil Lisagor, Dr. David Cohen, Dr. Reginald Peniston, and Dr. Arthur Larson. Looking ahead, Dr. Obney intends to experience continued growth and success in his career.
