From 2008 to 2010, Dr. McNabb was the associate director of science at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Public Health Informatics. During this period, he also held adjunct professorships at Emory University's Hubert department of global health and Rollins School of Public Health.
Earlier in his career, Dr. McNabb directed the division of integrated surveillance systems and services at the National Center for Public Health Informatics from 2006 to 2008. He was also influential as a senior epidemiologist at the National Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention between 2003 and 2005. Dr. McNabb's other academic contributions included serving as an adjunct associate professor in various departments at Tulane University while simultaneously working as an epidemic intelligence service officer with the Louisiana Department of Health from 1991 to 1993. Among other roles, Dr. McNabb was employed by the Oklahoma State Health Department in various roles, including senior microbiologist. As a seasoned researcher, he also published numerous scholarly works.
Dr. McNabb's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Oklahoma in 1972, a Master of Science in microbiology and immunology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1979, and a Doctor of Philosophy in microbiology and immunology from the University of Oklahoma in 1986. Besides his extensive education, Dr. McNabb remains abreast in his industry as a member of the American Public Health Association.
Throughout his career, Dr. McNabb has been recognized with numerous awards. His contributions to public health have also been acknowledged with the Paul Harris Award from International Health in 1999 and several commendation awards from various organizations. He also received the Group Honor Award for outstanding work with the Tuberculosis Epidemiologic Studies Consortium in 2004 and the Charles C. Shepard Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2005.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. McNabb is deeply involved in civic activities as a deacon in the Catholic Church within the Atlanta and Charlotte Diocese. He attributes much of his success to his faith, which has blessed his work and inspired him through challenging times.
