Prior to acquiring his present position, Dr. Andrade became a bariatric surgeon at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in 2019, where he continues to provide patients with surgeries to manage obesity and related conditions. Previously, he garnered success as the co-director and minimally invasive surgery/bariatric surgeon at the Brooklyn Bariatric Group from 2018 to 2020. His leadership skills were also evident as the chief of metabolic and bariatric surgery at Saint John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York, between 2016 and 2018 and as the chairperson of the hospital's department of general surgery from 2014 to 2018. During his tenure as chairman at Saint John's, Dr. Andrade left an indelible mark by modernizing practices through the adoption of new technologies and innovative approaches, which he aims to continue at Woodhull Medical Center.
Dr. Andrade's earlier roles include working as a general surgeon with the New York Bariatric Group and as a clinical instructor at the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. He also contributed his research expertise at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, dating to 2003.
Dr. Andrade's commitment to serving underserved communities exemplifies his establishment of a fully bilingual program at Woodhull Medical Center that provides care to patients regardless of insurance status. This initiative reflects his dedication to addressing health care disparities and offering life-saving procedures to combat obesity and manage diabetes. Building upon his professional accomplishments, Dr. Andrade began his education by earning a medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2001. His surgical internship was subsequently conducted through the general surgery residency program at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in 2005, a surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2009 and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami in 2007, and a fellowship in laparoendoscopic and bariatric surgery at the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami in 2010.
Adding to his professional success, Dr. Andrade is an elected fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also an active member of the American Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Venezuelan-American Medical Association. Moreover, Dr. Andrade is a member of the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association.
Dr. Andrade's dedication to his profession is also evident from his achievements, including being recognized multiple times during his general surgery residency and receiving an award from the Dominican Medical Association.
