SAN ANTONIO, January 22, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John S. Gilmore, III has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Drawing on 15 years of experience in the legal profession, Mr. Gilmore is senior associate at Goldstein and Orr, where he specialized in criminal defense. Since joining the firm in 2018, his outstanding performance has earned him a number of accolades, including Scene Magazine's Rising Star Award from 2018 to 2023 and its Top Criminal Defense Lawyer designation in 2023. Additionally, he was named a Top 100 and a 40 Under 40 by National Trial Lawyers.
Growing up, Mr. Gilmore was influenced immensely by his father, who is also a criminal defense attorney; in fact, he began working as a clerk in his father's office when he was just 15 years old. Throughout his high school and college years, Mr. Gilmore gained invaluable experience from his father, who allowed him to work on cases and gain practical knowledge.
When it came time to embark on his professional path, Mr. Gilmore earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2015. He went on to obtain a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary's University School of Law in 2018. While in law school, he served as a staff writer for "The Scholar: Law Review on Race and Social Justice" Vol. 19 and as associate editor on Vol. 20.
Of his many career accomplishments to date, Mr. Gilmore is particularly proud of his work in the case of a St. Mary's University ROTC student who had been falsely accused of non-consensual sex. The bogus claim threatened to derail his client's military career, but thanks to Mr. Gilmore and his colleagues, the gentleman was reinstated and is now a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.
To remain aware of developments affecting the criminal defense arena, Mr. Gilmore is active with a number of professional organizations, including the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court; the U.S. Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit; the U.S. District Court Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas; and the State Bar of Texas.
Outside of work, Mr. Gilmore enjoys traveling, trying new foods, spending time with his dogs, hiking and biking. In the coming years, he hopes to continue to facilitate positive change by providing assistance to individuals who have been wrongfully accused or incarcerated for actions that may become legal in the near future, such as marijuana-related offenses.
