Over the past four decades, Dr. Clement has carved a distinguished career in occupational and environmental medicine, demonstrating a profound commitment to enhancing health care through innovation and leadership. Currently serving as the chief executive officer at AsendMD LLC since 2023, Dr. Clement is dedicated to solving complex problems with artificial intelligence (AI) to improve productivity and patient care quality and automate processes to focus on tasks that matter most. Her role encapsulates her vision for leveraging technology in health care to achieve efficiency and effectiveness.
Before her current role, Dr. Clement was the medical director at Battelle from 2015 to 2024, where she managed health services during critical times, including the COVID-19 pandemic. She also served on the organization's institutional review board. Her leadership was instrumental in developing an HIV/AIDS program for Ford of South Africa and presenting her work at the United Nations. During the pandemic, Dr. Clement oversaw a significant operation for decontaminating N95 masks across over 40 units nationwide, leading a team that conducted daily medical monitoring of approximately 1,000 workers. Her innovative approach included the development of six software applications for medical management, a testament to her commitment to employee safety and health.
Dr. Clement's professional journey is a testament to her versatility and broad knowledge in various areas of health care. Before joining Battelle, she held several key positions, including director of clinical operations health care management for international markets from 1998 to 2000 and medical director for the western area at IBM between 1993 and 1994. Dr. Clement's diverse expertise is further highlighted by her roles as a commissioner and epidemic intelligence service officer with the U.S. Public Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, underscoring her deep understanding of public health and occupational medicine.
In addition to her primary career endeavors, Dr. Clement founded TCOG, a company managed by her sister and designed to care for her ailing mother. The company employed a dedicated staff of 10 individuals, who worked around the clock to ensure her mother's well-being until her passing. Dr. Clement also became involved in AI consulting and has had the opportunity to become a TEDx speaker. Moreover, she has garnered success outside of medicine as a professional photographer, film producer, and author, having contributed some of her artwork to AI Digital.
Dr. Clement's academic background laid a strong foundation for her illustrious career. Her undergraduate studies culminated in a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Miami in 1976, followed by a master's degree in environmental health and industrial hygiene and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati in 1980 and 1985, respectively. These academic achievements were significantly influenced by mentors who guided Dr. Clement toward a specialization in occupational medicine, sparking her interest through an introduction to industrial hygiene and setting her on a path toward becoming an expert in her field.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Clement is actively involved in professional organizations such as the American Heart Association and is an elected fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. She is also working with the American Industrial Hygiene Association to update their biosafety manual. Moreover, Dr. Clement contributes to the Medical Student Scholarship Fund of the University of Cincinnati and has supported medical school applicant evaluations on campus.
Dr. Clement's contributions to literature and film include contributing to "Wake Up, Live the Life You Love" and producing the documentary "Before They Die." She is one of the co-authors of Occupational Health for Higher Education and Research Institutions. Furthermore, Dr. Clement has been featured in a book that was released in 2023
In light of her success, Dr. Clement received recognition with an Award for Medical Leadership and was named as the Black Engineer of the Year by the STEM Minorities and Research Science.
