Ms. Watson is a distinguished attorney and partner at JLW Immigration Law Group. With 25 years of experience in the legal profession, she has established herself as an expert in citizenship and naturalization applications, family-based immigration cases, defense from removal, asylum, and other complex immigration matters. Her dedication to her clients and her field has earned her a reputation for excellence and compassion.

Ms. Watson's legal career began at American Gateways, a leading Texas immigration law non-profit corporation, from 1999 to 2003. She continued her work in public service law at the State Bar of Texas before moving into private practice with Hines and Leigh P.C. in 2004. She spent the next several years as an associate attorney, concentrating on complex immigration legal matters before joining as partner at JLW Immigration Law Group, formerly Walker-Gates Vela PLLC, in 2016. In 2021, Ms. Watson joined the remarkable faculty of the Paralegal Program at Austin Community College as an adjunct professor.

Ms. Watson's educational background laid a strong foundation for her successful career. After earning a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1995, she went on to graduate from the University of Texas School of Law in 1999 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. In 2006, she became certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She holds bar admissions with the Texas Bar, the Western District of Texas, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Throughout her career, Ms. Watson has been actively involved in various professional organizations, including the State Bar of Texas and the Austin Bar Association. Her commitment to continuing legal education is evident through her volunteer work with UT Law and her involvement with the American Immigration Lawyers Association, for which she currently serves on its Executive Committee. Ms. Watson's dedication to her profession has been recognized with several awards, including the prestigious W. Page Keeton Award for Excellence in Continuing Legal Education in 2020 and being named a Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyers in the immigration law section for three consecutive years, and recently entered the Super Lawyer selection for 2023 and 2024.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Watson is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of legal professionals. She takes immense joy in seeing her undergraduate paralegals pursue law school and succeed in their careers. Additionally, she is a prolific presence in her local community, serving on the Austin Urban Renewal Board and supporting American Gateways, a nonprofit organization that seeks to enshrine the rights of immigrants. Over the next several years, she plans to transition away from private practice to focus more on teaching and continuing education, aiming to inspire and guide aspiring attorneys.
