Dr. Comissiong is a distinguished surgeon with over two decades of experience in general surgery, playing an integral role at Surgical Associates of the Virgin Islands in Saint Thomas. His daily responsibilities include seeing patients in the office with a range of health care concerns, from abdominal complaints and hernias to breast and colon cancer. Additionally, Dr. Comissiong tends to patients in the emergency room with a wide range of conditions such as appendicitis, bowel obstructions, gallbladder disease and trauma patients like motor vehicle crashes and gunshot wounds.

In preparation for his medical career, Dr. Comissiong earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville in 1997. Subsequently, he completed his residency training at Wright State University in 2002. His education laid a strong foundation for his career, enabling him to achieve expertise in general surgery. Adding to his expertise, Dr. Comissiong received board certification from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, further attesting to his proficiency and dedication to his field.

Throughout his career, Dr. Comissiong has been an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. These affiliations have allowed him to stay at the forefront of advancements in surgical techniques and patient care.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Comissiong is deeply involved in civic-minded organizations. He dedicates time to taking care of patients with lesser means, many times in his private office, reflecting his commitment to giving back to the community. He also enjoys teaching nursing staff, nursing students, and physician assistant students. He also mentors numerous high school and college students who are interested in the field of medicine.

While completing his residency training, Dr. Comissiong was honored with an Outstanding Resident Achievement Award. He attributes much of his success to the strong influence of his mother and grandmother, who provided him with unwavering support as a younger student and guidance crucial in helping him achieve his professional goals. However, Dr. Comissiong's most notable achievement was returning home to Saint Thomas, where he has significantly impacted his community. The gratitude expressed by those whose lives he has saved has been extremely rewarding, reinforcing the profound difference he continues to make on his island.

Eager for the future of his career, Dr. Comissiong envisions himself in a "less stressful" work environment within the next decade, allowing him to "slow down" while still focusing on helping patients.
