She has been in her current role as a licensed clinical professional counselor since 2024, following her tenure as a provisional licensed professional counselor with the same organization from 2022 to 2024. In 2024 she started Healing Rivers Counseling, LLC. She is also a therapist position at Williamsburg Centre for Therapy. Prior to her counseling career, she dedicated over two decades to the health care field as a nurse, where she honed her skills in patient care and developed a deep understanding of trauma and its impacts within her community.

Her commitment to these areas has established her as a respected figure in the counseling community. She is further an active member of the American Psychological Association, the Virginia Counselor's Association, and the Military Trauma Counseling Association, which allows her to stay informed about the latest developments within her field.

Educationally, Ms. Mitchell earned a Master of Arts in clinical psychology and counseling from Southern New Hampshire University; graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in psychology from the same institution and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Thomas Nelson Community College. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical counseling psychology at Regent University and certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), further enhancing her therapeutic capabilities.

Ms. Mitchell attributes her success to her unwavering commitment to knowledge and personal growth, consistently embracing new experiences and welcoming opportunities for learning, Her educational pursuits began in her 30s when she first enrolled in college coursework despite the common belief that educational opportunities have passed by this age. In her 60s, she returned to academia, illustrating her belief that it is never too late to expand one's horizons and following her grandfather's legacy of becoming an attorney and the first male to attend an all-women's college in Boston at age 52.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Mitchell is actively involved in civic-minded organizations. She has volunteered for the Peninsula Auto Dealer's Children's Christmas organization for over 40 years. She has supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for 41 years and served as a disaster specialist with the American Red Cross after the events of September 11, 2001, and during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has been an American Red Cross Volunteer since age 16. Additionally, she authored "SWAT Out Anger," contributing valuable insights to society. In 2015 she co-founded Virginia Hope to empower women suffering from endometriosis and related disorders. She has been a crisis call volunteer with the Endometriosis Association since the early 1980's and was a featured presenter at the world conference in Milwaukee where her research helped led to regulation of dioxin levels in baby foods. Since 2015 she has lobbied for women's healthcare in Washington and helped pass the bill recognizing March as National Endometriosis Month in Virginia.

In her personal life, Ms. Mitchell enjoys practicing mixed media and glass arts. In the upcoming years, she aspires to publish her book designed as a therapeutic resource for children facing emotional challenges. She also seeks to empower fellow therapists by sharing her insights and experiences.
