Hailing from nearly 15 years of expertise in scientific research surrounding autonomous aerial vehicles, smart buildings and 3D printing, Dr. Mishra has found success as a professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he teaches dynamics, control systems and mechatronics at all levels. With numerous contributions to the field to his credit, he has notably distinguished himself as the co-inventor of a collaborative energy management system and the inventor of high-resolution sensing and control of electrohydrodynamic jet printing.

Dr. Mishra's influence extends beyond his research and teaching. He has served as chair of the technical committee on mechatronics for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) from 2021 to 2022 and is an active member of professional organizations such as IEEE and the Vertical Flight Society. Additionally, he has chaired the curriculum committee for controls and dynamics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and participated in fundraisers in India.

Dr. Mishra's dedication to excellence is reflected in the numerous accolades he has received, including the Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division, the Early CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, and the James M. Tien '66 Early Career Award and Class of 1951 Outstanding Teaching Award from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In accounting for his success, Dr. Mishra credits his unwavering commitment to excellence and his desire to make a positive impact, whether helping an individual or striving towards larger goals. Dr. Mishra's passion for mechanical engineering was ignited during high school when he developed an interest in watches and aspired to create a self-sustaining watch that did not rely on batteries. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. He furthered his education by earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley in 2008.

Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Mishra served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2008 to 2010. He subsequently joined Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as an assistant professor in 2010, where he was later promoted to an associate professor in 2016 and a full professor in 2022. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Mishra has been appointed as a program officer at the National Science Foundation since 2023.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Mishra is focused on identifying safety protocols for artificial intelligence systems to prevent unintended harm, exploring this question from both scientific and leadership perspectives. His expertise in this area has led to his appointment at the National Science Foundation, where he aims to grow his role due to its significant influence on research directions.
