He is a certified member of the American Foregut Society and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Tennessee Medical Association. He is also an elected fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Furthermore, Dr. Smith is active with the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Honor Society, is a volunteer professor at the Bethel University of Tennessee and sponsors Hospice House.
