Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With a career spanning over 25 years, Ms. Dodd has established herself as a dedicated English teacher at Franklin Central High School. Her journey in education began in 1997 when she embarked on her role as an educator, demonstrating a lifelong passion for teaching and a commitment to student development. Her ability to manage over 175 students daily while developing rigorous curricula and assessing the work of her pupils showcases her exceptional organizational and pedagogical skills.
In addition to her primary role at Franklin Central High School, Ms. Dodd also contributed her knowledge and experience as faculty at a local community college for four years. This position allowed her to extend her influence beyond the high school environment, impacting adult learners and contributing to the broader educational community. Her commitment to education is further evidenced by her active membership in several organizations, including the Indiana State Teachers Association, the National Education Association, the Indiana Teachers of Writing, the Indiana Arts Commission, Key Club, Kiwanis International, and her past membership in the National Council of Teachers of English.
Ms. Dodd's professional achievements include being featured in a video by the Indiana Arts Commission, which recognized her innovative approach to integrating hands-on art activities into the school curriculum. Collaborating with a local artist, she introduced her students to needle felting as part of their transcendentalism unit, focusing on nature themes--a project that not only enriched her students' learning experience but also earned accolades from the commission itself.
Ms. Dodd's educational background has been instrumental in shaping her career. Initially earning a Bachelor of Arts in English, language arts, and reading from Indiana University, she went on to receive a Master of Arts in curriculum and instruction from the University of Indianapolis in 2000. Additionally, she has pursued further specialization through certifications via Google, Jane Austen and Co., and Avid. These have enabled her to enhance her teaching strategies and stay abreast of educational technologies and methodologies.
Ms. Dodd's civic engagement includes serving as a past leader for the Girl Scouts of the USA, where she fostered leadership and empowerment among young girls. Her commitment to community service is also evident through awards such as a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission in 2024 for integrating arts into education, being named Southside Pines Teacher of the Month in 2023, and receiving nominations for Teacher of the Year.
Outside of her professional life, Ms. Dodd enjoys chasing waterfalls, hiking in the mountains, fishing, and camping with her family. Looking ahead, she envisions relocating to Tennessee upon retirement with plans to continue impacting the field of education through online programs and tutoring services--a testament to her lifelong dedication to teaching and learning.
