He also acts as a technical advisor for commercialization and manufacturing operations, leveraging his extensive expertise to guide the company's strategic direction in these areas.

In addition to his role at Kraton Corporation, Dr. Nelson has held several key positions throughout his career. Prior to joining Kraton, he was appointed as the SandT manager at Union Chemical, which later became the Arizona Chemical Company. He had previously served as a technology manager for the company, during which time he was instrumental in driving technological advancements and product innovations. His earlier experiences include valuable roles at USDA Eastern Regional Research in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, and Mobil Oil in New Jersey.

Dr. Nelson is also an accomplished author, having contributed significantly to the body of knowledge in his field with publications such as "The Chemistry and Use of Pine Chemicals in the Industry" in 2007. His expertise is further recognized through active membership in several industry-related organizations, including the American Chemical Society, American Royal Chemist Society, and Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers.

Dr. Nelson's academic background laid the foundation for his successful career. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana in 1977, after which he received a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Alberta in Canada in 1986.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Nelson is deeply committed to mentoring high school students in Savannah, Georgia. His dedication to fostering the next generation of scientists has been recognized through numerous awards, including a Leadership Award from Kraton Corporation in 2022, Best Presenter by the American Royal Chemist Society, and Best Instructor by the National Lubricating Grease Institute in 2002.
