After graduating high school, Ms. Crabtree joined the United States Army as a soldier in 1977. Subsequently, she was approached by her battalion re-enlistment NCO and decided to re-enlist as a deep-sea diver, the first in the Army's history. Although she faced discrimination and challenges in the male-dominated industry, she followed her passion and took scuba diving lessons. She went through the difficult application process in the ensuing years. She sought help in pursuing her dream through her company, battalion, brigade, and post commander, the Inspector General at the Pentagon, and the specialized training branch, but to no avail. Ms. Crabtree served the U.S. Army faithfully until 1998.

Upon retiring, Ms. Crabtree began working as the owner and operator of Crabtree and Sons Lawn Maintenance. She furthered her education by completing computer science coursework at Aiken Technical College. She has achieved much throughout her career, leveraging her expertise as a consultant for Jennifer Egan, who wrote "Manhattan Beach." Additionally, her photo was featured in a book by Emily Yoon called "The Only Woman," which features 100 photos of women surrounded by men in their professions.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Crabtree intends to continue working on her manuscript. She is unsure if it will ever be published but would like to complete the story so that her children, grandchildren, and other interested parties can hear her point of view.
