Before joining GE HealthCare, Dr. Fuentes-Alburo was the global medical lead for oncology and diabetes at Viatris from 2020 to 2021. His tenure at Mylan included roles as a senior director of medical affairs for biosimilars and oncology in the Americas and European Union between 2018 and 2020.

Dr. Fuentes-Alburo's career also included significant contributions at Novartis between 2009 and 2018, beginning as an advisor and working his way up to the senior global brand medical director. Among other roles, he was a surgical oncologist at Hospital Angeles del Pedregal and a staff surgeon at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología.

Dr. Fuentes-Alburo's commitment to the field is further demonstrated by his involvement in several industry-related organizations. His membership in the Society of Oncology in Mexico, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, the European Hematology Association, and the European Society of Medical Oncology has not only expanded his professional network but also allowed him to contribute to the advancement of the field. Dr. Fuentes-Alburo's tenure as the secretary of the Mexican Society of Oncology from 2004 to 2006 was marked by his dedication to the society's mission and vision.

Throughout his career, Dr. Fuentes-Alburo was instrumental in implementing numerous procedural changes at various institutions. Among them, he assembled expert teams to reduce morbidity rates and improve outcomes.

Dr. Fuentes-Alburo's academic background is extensive and diverse. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Universidad La Salle A.C. in Mexico City and a Doctor of Medicine in surgical oncology from the Secretaria de Salud in Mexico City. He also garnered an associate degree in thanatology from the Instituto Mexicano de Tanatologia in Mexico City in 1999 and an associate degree in art history from the Instituto Cultural Helenico in Mexico City in 2006. Moreover, Dr. Fuentes-Alburo completed coursework in cancer genetics at CNIO in Spain in 2001 and received a postgraduate certificate in business administration between 2012 and 2014.
