MIAMI, February 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maria Martinez-Guzman has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Martinez-Guzman has distinguished herself in the field of news media across a career of more than 25 years. She currently serves as the executive vice president of news at Univision Communications, a role she started in 2021. Ms. Martinez-Guzman's tenure at Univision began in 1998, when she worked as the news director for Univision affiliate station KNVO. Five years later, she made the leap to Univision proper, starting as an assignment desk employee and working her way up from there. In her current role, Ms. Martinez-Guzman supervises Univision's streaming news channel, Noticias Univision 24/7 on Vix, which includes running multiple daily and weekly flagship shows and managing the channel's investigative reporting unit. On top of breaking news and major coverage, she is directly responsible for 100 hours of live content each week and manages over 400 newsroom employees.

Ms. Martinez-Guzman's successful career was built on a solid educational foundation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Florida International University in 1995. Ms. Martinez-Guzman attributes her success to the determination instilled in her by her family. Born in Cuba, she was only seven years old when her family immigrated to the United States in 1980. It was that year, while watching a presidential debate between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, that Ms. Martinez-Guzman was told she could grow up to be like moderator Barbara Walters. That moment ignited her passion to become a journalist.

Like Barbara Walters in that debate, Ms. Martinez-Guzman prides herself on asking tough questions even in the face of powerful interview subjects. One highlight of her career was her arrest in Venezula while interviewing Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro in 2019. This became an international incident, prompting intervention from the White House. Despite being a potentially dangerous situation, Ms. Martinez-Guzman remains proud that she and her team stood their ground and refused to be intimidated out of doing their duty as journalists.

The impassioned approach to news media that Ms. Martinez-Guzman brings to her work has been recognized with numerous accolades. She was named Best News Employee of the Year by Univision in 2017 and has won a Peabody Award, eight Emmy Awards, and two Edward R. Murrow Awards, among others. In 2023, Ms. Martinez-Guzman was included on Cablefax's list of most powerful women.

Having been inspired to become a journalist herself, Ms. Martinez-Guzman recognizes her power to lift others. She is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and loves mentoring young Hispanic women who are looking to break into media. Ms. Martinez-Guzman's drive to teach the next generation of journalists further cements her legacy as a leader in the field of journalism and news media.
