Mr. Askew is a technical consultant who has established himself as a distinguished expert on manufacturing wire and cable products; specifically, his expertise in electrical wire and cable encompasses design, manufacturing, and quality assurance systems for cable testing. His career began in the 1970s and has been marked by significant achievements and contributions to the industry. Upon graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, Mr. Askew commenced his career in plastic extrusion, specializing in producing rigid plastic pipes, and subsequently leveraged his expertise to transition into the electrical wire and cable sector.

Once he joined the electrical wire and cable sector, Mr. Askew identified significant parallels in manufacturing principles of rigid plastic pipe extrusion that were applicable to electrical cable production. His initial involvement with telephone cables marked the beginning of a progressive and expanding career trajectory. Since 2020, Mr. Askew has served as a technical consultant through Lloyd Askew Consulting while simultaneously contributing as a sales representative for PanelRight. Before holding his current positions, Mr. Askew was the quality and technical manager at Lake Cable LLC from 2013 to 2020, after a year working as the quality manager.

Before his tenure at Lake Cable, Mr. Askew worked as a quality engineer at C&M Corporation between 2010 and 2012 while serving as a consultant for Lloyd Askew Consulting from 2009 to 2010. Leading up to those positions, he was the director of engineering at Kalas Manufacturing Inc. from 1995 to 2001 and manager of process and facilities engineering at Rome Cable Corporation from 1993 to 1995.

Mr. Askew's foundational experiences were shaped by his time working at Reynolds Metals Company as a quality assurance and technology manager from 1989 to 1992 and an applications engineer from 1988 to 1989 after his time at Hendrix Wire and Cable, where he worked as a materials manager from 1986 to 1988 after starting as a process engineering manager from 1984 to 1986. Mr. Askew started in wire and cable manufacturing with Prestolite Wire in 1977 as a process engineer and then went to the Rockbestos Company from 1979 to 1984, where he served in such capacities as technical services manager and QC manager. In reflecting on his career, he takes great pride in being part of the first team that successfully extruded red stripes on underground power cable—a significant achievement within the industry. Along with his hands-on experience and his degree, Mr. Askew further enhanced his expertise by earning several certifications: polymer engineering from the University of Massachusetts (Lowell) in 1985, quality engineering from Clackamas Community College in 1991, AutoCAD from Lancaster County Career & Technology Center in 1998 and another in systems engineering from Penn State Great Valley in 2001.

Moreover, the guidance Mr. Askew received from his father played a pivotal role in his success, motivating him to work diligently toward his goals. As an active professional in his field, he is involved in several industry-related organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Society for Quality, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Wire Association International. Notably, he has shared his knowledge as a speaker at the Wire Symposium and published a short article on related topics, further contributing to the field.

Additionally, Mr. Askew is a member of Alpha Chi Rho, and his civic engagements include charity work through that organization and volunteer activities with Freemasonry. Outside of his career, he was an active runner who previously participated in the Boston Marathon and several other marathons before undergoing his hip replacement; now, he enjoys hiking and walking during his leisure time with his wife, Suzanne. Looking forward, Mr. Askew will follow the careers of his adult daughters, Jessica and Sarah, while continuing his consulting work.
