Throughout his career, Dr. Olson has been an active member of the American Academy of Religion and the Asian Studies Society, reflecting his dedication to advancing the field of religious studies. His scholarly contributions include authoring 23 books, with notable titles such as "Religious Texts Interpreted," published by ABC/CLIO in 2017, "Indian Asceticism Power, Violence, and Play," published by Oxford University Press in 2015, and "The Allure of Decadent Thinking: Essays on Religious Studies and the Challenge of Postmodernism," published by Oxford University Press in 2013. These works have enriched the academic discourse on religion and culture.
In recognition of his academic excellence, Dr. Olson was awarded the Teacher-Scholar Chair and the National Endowment for the Arts Chair at Allegheny College. Additionally, he received a fellowship at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge in 1991. His involvement with local churches highlights his commitment to civic engagement and community service.
Dr. Olson's decision to pursue higher education came after working in construction for his uncle as a teenager—a path he realized was not for him. His friends encouraged him to attend college, and this pivotal moment led him to explore academia and find his passion for teaching and research.
