He was affiliated with the Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha as the director of the pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program from 2013 to 2017, chief of pediatric anesthesiology between 2013 and 2020, and medical director of perioperative services from 2018 to 2020. Earlier in his career, Dr. Shukry held positions at The Children's Hospital of Oklahoma between 2010 and 2013, beginning as an associate professor in anesthesia and then as the division chief of pediatric anesthesia program director of the pediatric anesthesia fellowship. He also garnered experience as the clinical director of perioperative services at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center from 2009 to 2013.
Dr. Shukry's academic journey has been a testament to his commitment to continuous learning and professional development. He received a Doctor of Medicine from Damascus University in 1997, an internship in surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2001, and a residency in anesthesiology at Tulane University School of Medicine in 2004. Dr. Shukry further honed his expertise with a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2005. His academic pursuits also include a Doctor of Philosophy in science education from the University of Oklahoma in 2013 and an Executive Master of Business Administration in management from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2022. Dr. Shukry is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Shukry's dedication to his field is evident through his involvement with various professional organizations. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is also a member of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Additionally, Dr. Shukry's role as a senior consultant for the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the U.S. since 2006 underscores his commitment to advancing medical knowledge and patient care.
