NEW YORK, February 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joshua D. Zimmerman, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Zimmerman is a distinguished professor of history and the Eli and Diana Zborowski Chair in Holocaust Studies and East European Jewish History at Yeshiva University. With more than 25 years of experience in his profession, he has established himself as an expert in the history of Russia and Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on the Jews of these regions and Poland. His dedication to understanding and addressing the origins and rise of anti-Semitism has been a driving force throughout his career.

Since joining Yeshiva University in 1998, Dr. Zimmerman has made significant contributions to the field through his teaching, research and publications. He is best known for his outstanding work on two collaborative projects that involved editing influential books emerging from conferences he organized at Yeshiva University. These volumes have become standard works in the field, thanks to his foresight in inviting leading scholars to participate.

In addition to his role at Yeshiva University, Dr. Zimmerman is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the International Advisory Board of The Auschwitz-Jewish Center (New York-Oswiecim), the Association for Jewish Studies, the American Historical Association, and the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. His involvement in these organizations underscores his commitment to advancing historical scholarship and fostering academic collaboration.

Dr. Zimmerman's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1989. He then earned a Master of Arts in history from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1993, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in comparative history from Brandeis University in 1998. His educational background laid a strong foundation for his scholarly pursuits and has significantly contributed to his success as an academic and historian.

Dr. Zimmerman's scholarly achievements have been recognized through numerous fellowships and awards. He was a fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2011 and 2012, a fellow at Oxford Center at Oxford University in 2005, and a Fulbright Fellow from 2004 to 2005. His publications include "Jozef Pilsudski: Founding Father of Modern Poland," published by Harvard in 2022, and his ongoing role as book review editor and editorial board member for "Polin: Studies in Polish Jewry" since 2004.

One of the strongest influences on Dr. Zimmerman's passion for academia came from his father, who held a Doctor of Philosophy in history and taught at a university. Growing up surrounded by books and attending his father's lectures as a teenager left a lasting impression on him. This early exposure to academia inspired him to pursue a career in history and teaching, where he continues to make significant contributions to the field today.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Zimmerman enjoys traveling with his family and is the proud father of three children. Looking ahead, he aims to publish a manuscript he recently completed--a collaborative project with five other historians that documents the history of Jews in Poland from earliest times to the present.
