His duties also include attending pre-construction meetings, following up on project issues, and reviewing plans. One of his notable achievements with the city has been an extensive project that included reclassifying streets, parking, and bike lanes, an endeavor that garnered positive feedback from the community.
Before his tenure in San Diego, Dr. Aburahmah was the traffic management division manager for Manatee County Government from 1994 to 2001. His responsibilities included overseeing traffic operations and ensuring efficient transportation systems within the county. Additionally, he spent more than a decade as a professor at San Diego State University, where he imparted his extensive knowledge of civil engineering to aspiring engineers.
Dr. Aburahmah's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science from Tennessee State University. He furthered his education by earning a master's degree and later a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering from the University of South Florida in 2000. His academic achievements have been instrumental in his professional success, providing a strong foundation for his career in civil engineering and traffic management.
In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Aburahmah is an active member of several industry-related organizations. He has served as a council member for the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices since 2024 and is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Traffic Control Devices Committee of the Transportation Research Board. These affiliations reflect his commitment to staying at the forefront of advancements in transportation engineering.
Dr. Aburahmah holds certifications as a registered professional civil engineer in both California and Florida and has earned a transportation professional certificate. His expertise has been recognized through various awards, including recognition from San Diego for his contributions to the city's infrastructure. He attributes his success to his education and wide range of experiences in his field.
Beyond his professional life, Dr. Aburahmah has been involved in civic-minded organizations such as the Institute of Transportation Engineers Local Chapters, where he served as past president and volunteer.
