Drawing on years of education and mental health therapy expertise, Ms. Olson excels as an addictions and mental health therapist for the Parkdale Center for Professionals, which provides various addiction treatment programs, withdrawal management services, intensive outpatient solutions, and more. Previously, she worked for the Regional Mental Health Center, St. Jude House, and the Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana. Over the years, Ms. Olson has also honed her professional experience in administrative, educational, and consulting positions with Chicago Heights Library, Everybody Counts Center for Independent Living, the Trade Winds Rehabilitation Center, and the Lake County Public Library.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Olson gained valuable expertise in mental health services and working with the deaf population as a counselor for the deaf at Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation, a consultant for the Northwest Indiana Agency for the Deaf, and a teacher with Portage Adult Education. A licensed professional counselor and nationally certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor, Ms. Olson holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Indiana University, a Master of Arts in special education from Ball State University, and a Master of Arts in counseling and guidance from Governors State University.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. Olson is affiliated with several organizations: the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the Indiana Association of the Deaf, the Indiana Deafness and Rehabilitation Association, the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, and the American Counseling Association. Likewise, Ms. Olson contributes to her community through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
Given her professional achievements, Ms. Olson received a fellowship through Ball State University and a Letter of Commendation from Indiana Governor Robert Orr, Governor Otis Brown, and President Ronald Reagan. Throughout her career, she has also been honored in National Digest twice. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, she credits her success to her father and Victor D'Amico, who taught her much during her tenure at the Art Barge in New York.
