In this role, she oversees the daily instructional operations, manages campus athletics, handles budgets, supervises assistant principals, and coordinates with faculty leadership. Furthermore, Ms. Shannon is tasked with maintaining communication with district executives, collaborating with community stakeholders, and actively engaging with students and parents. Before her current position, Ms. Shannon was an assistant principal at Escambia High School from 2012 to 2020. Her responsibilities included supporting the principal in administrative functions and developing educational strategies.Having begun her career in education in 1996, Ms. Shannon taught English to 7th, 8th, and 10th-grade students in a private school. She later enjoyed a significant tenure at Sylvan Learning from 2000 to 2007, where she held the role of director of education, honing her educational management and curriculum development skills. She also taught all subjects to students, including beginning reading through study skills, speed reading, ACT Prep, mathematics, and gifted students. Ms. Shannon was subsequently hired by Pine Forest High School as an English and reading teacher, shaping young minds between 2007 and 2011, before joining Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida, as an instructional coach providing guidance and professional development to fellow educators from 2011 to 2012.
Ms. Shannon aims to extend her educational impact by transitioning to district-level roles. She also has aspirations of establishing her own preschool business. Moreover, Ms. Shannon is contemplating authoring a preschool literacy curriculum to bridge cognitive development gaps before formal education begins.
Active civically, Ms. Shannon is a public speaker at various women's conferences, churches, and teen rallies. She notably had the opportunity to speak publicly during Black History Month in 2022, which she found deeply rewarding.
Ms. Shannon's professional expertise is rooted in her academic background. She received a Bachelor of Science in English, language arts, and history from Pensacola Christian College in 1996 and a Master of Education in educational leadership and administration from the American College of Education in 2011. Ms. Shannon remains a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority.
Ms. Shannon has been recognized through multiple accolades, including being named as the Pine Forest High School Teacher of the Year for the 2009-2010 academic school year and as the Escambia County High School Reading Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year. Furthermore, she was recognized as the Assistant Principal of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year and as the Escambia County Principal of the Year for the 2023-2024 school. Ms. Shannon credits her success to her willingness to take risks, learn continuously, and not fear failure, all of which have significantly contributed to her educational achievements and innovations.
