WINTER HAVEN, FL, February 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Faraj Hijaz has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Hijaz's interest in chemistry has been apparent from a young age. After earning a Bachelor of Science in analytical chemistry from Birzeit University, he became an analytical chemist at the University's Environmental Health Center. Subsequently, he earned a Fulbright Fellowship, and received his master's degree and Ph.D. in food science from Kansas State University. Upon graduation, he moved to the University of Florda and worked as a postdoctoral researcher and research chemist from 2011 to 2022 under the guidance of Drs. Fred Gmitter, Nabil Killiny, and Jos I. Reyes-De-Corcuera.

Drawing on years of professional expertise, Dr. Hijaz excels as a research chemist at the University of Florida, where he has studied the effects of fruit maturity on the flavor of mandarin hybrids, the chemical composition of the hemolymph of the Asian citrus phyllids, the chemical composition of ACP honeydew, and the effect of temperature changes on the metabolism of ACP. Since 2012, Dr. Hijaz has also pursued postdoctoral research in the Vector Entomology Lab at the University of Florida.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Hijaz aligns himself with the American Chemical Society, the Institute of Food Technology, Florida State Horticulture, and the Entomological Society of America. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he has contributed to several publications, including "Possible role of plant volatiles in tolerance against Huanglongbing in citrus," "The use of deuterium-labeled gamma-aminobutyric to study uptake, translocation, and metabolism of exogenous GABA in plants," and "Phenolics, flavonoids, and antioxidant capacities in Citrus species with different degree of tolerance to Huanglongbing."

In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Hijaz earned a Fulbright Scholarship through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs and was named the Top Presenter in the Poster Session at the Kansas State Research Forum. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he attributes his success to the guidance and support of those around him. Looking toward the future, Dr. Hijaz aims to continue conducting research.
