Prior to his current roles, Dr. Berger was an associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine from 2015 to 2017 and a physician at the McAllen Family Medicine Residency Program during the same period. In 2015, he also served as an associate adjunct professor at Morehouse School of Medicine. Earlier in his career, he was an assistant clinical professor at Hahnemann Medical School and a faculty associate program director for the Family Medicine Residency Program in 1994. Before transitioning into medicine, he worked as an electronic engineer at the California Institute of Technology.

Dr. Berger's educational background is extensive and foundational to his success. He earned his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery degrees from McGill University in 1982 after completing a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1978. He holds several certifications, including a board certification in family medicine since 1986 and a Certificate of Added Qualification in geriatrics from the American Board of Family Medicine obtained in 1990.

Throughout his career, Dr. Berger has been actively involved in professional organizations. He is a member of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians and previously served as a board member for the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Berger has received numerous accolades for his contributions to medicine, including Third Place for Innovative Research from the Florida and Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, Resident of the Year and Teacher Faculty Member of the Year. He was also honored with outstanding leadership and recognition from the Scarlet Key Society for an outstanding medical student paper.

In addition to his other professional achievements, Dr. Berger has contributed scholarly work to the industry, authoring several influential publications, such as "Try This Mental Status Exam for Telehealth Visits" in Family Practice Management, "Cost of e-Prescribing Drugs vs OTC Purchase" in the American Journal of Medicine and "Misuse of Beers Criteria" in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. He was also the founding editor of the Photo Quiz Monthly Column for American Family Physician in 1998 and a guest editor for a book in Clinics and Primary Care in 1997.

Dr. Berger attributes his overall professional success to having an innovative, inquisitive personality and a willingness to go places nobody has gone before. Outside his career, he is dedicated to civic engagement, evident through his role as chairman of the Committee for Teaching Procedures.
