Ms. Chalas has dedicated over 30 years to a distinguished career in the military and aviation sectors. Since 2024, she has been serving as the deputy chief of staff G-3/5/7 for the Army Reserve Aviation Command (ARAC), where she is responsible for identifying exercises, training opportunities, and resources and managing the annual fiscal budget. Ms. Chalas's expertise in building cohesive teams has been a cornerstone of her professional journey.
Before her current role, Ms. Chalas was the garrison commander at Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA) from 2022 to 2024. In this capacity, she oversaw the facility's operations and welfare, ensuring it met the needs of its personnel. Between 2021 and 2022, Ms. Chalas served as the branch chief of reserve schools at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, where she was pivotal in shaping educational programs for reservists.
Ms. Chalas's career also includes significant legislative experience. She was a legislative assistant to the 37th vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army from 2019 to 2021 and a congressional budget liaison for the Assistant Secretary of the Army Financial Management and Comptroller between 2018 and 2019. Additionally, Ms. Chalas was a U.S. Army congressional fellow in the Office of the Chief of Legislative Liaison from 2016 to 2018 and was a legislative defense fellow for Congresswoman Betty McCollum in 2017.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Chalas served as an attack reconnaissance battalion operations officer for the 158th Aviation Regiment from 2015 to 2016 and a U.S. Army Reserve exchange officer with the Canadian Forces between 2013 and 2015. She also held other notable positions, such as aviation force integrator at the USARC Aviation Directorate from 2011 to 2013 and company commander for A Co/7, 158th Aviation Regiment, between 2009 and 2011.
In addition to her military service, Ms. Chalas has worked in various capacities within General Electric (GE). She began as a nuclear turbine field services engineer for GE Nuclear Energy in 1996. She was also a Six Sigma black belt for GE Power Systems from 1999 to 2001, a performance services manager for GE Energy between 2003 and 2006 and a wind turbine site commodity leader for GE Wind Energy until 2007.
Ms. Chalas's academic achievements have significantly contributed to her success. Her educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1996. Subsequently, she received a Master of Business Administration from J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University in 2008, completed the Strategic Fellows Program at the Institute of World Politics in 2014, earned a Master of Professional Studies in legislative affairs from The George Washington University in 2017 and completed a Master of Strategic Studies from The United States Army War College in 2023.
Among her most notable accomplishments, Ms. Chalas was the first Latina in the National Guard to pilot Blackhawk helicopters. She was also featured in the Smithsonian Aviation Museum.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Chalas is actively involved in professional and civic organizations. She is a member of the Army Aviation Association of America, the Association of the United States Army and the Military Officers Association of America. She is also active with the Rotary Club of Dublin and has served on the board of trustees at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy since 2014.
Ms. Chalas attributes her success to her parents' sacrifices. As immigrants from the Dominican Republic who pursued the American dream, they instilled in her the values of hard work, humility and respect for others. These principles have guided her throughout her career and personal life.
Reflecting on her military career, Ms. Chalas has always aspired to be successful and reach the rank of general. Following retirement from military service, she envisions dedicating her time to advocating as a lobbyist for causes she is passionate about.
