His role involves looking from a baseline of institutional effectiveness practices to fulfill the organization's mission to its stakeholders. He also serves as the executive director of strategy deployment and business transformation at Howard University, a position he has held since 2016.

Prior to his current roles, Mr. James was the executive director of strategy deployment and business transformation for health sciences at Howard University from 2013 to 2016. He also served as a senior lean consultant at Inova Health System in 2013 and as an industrial engineering manager at Peapod from 2012 to 2013. His earlier career includes positions, such as North American process engineer at Nestle Dreyer's and production supervisor at the same company. From 1999 to 2010, he was the Buffalo division package planning industrial engineering supervisor at UPS.

Mr. James is also an entrepreneur, having co-founded Ataj Solutions Inc. and Equitable Ink LLC, where he served from 2001 to 2017. He is also the owner of Paradyce and Loveland Development, LLC. He attributes his professional success to the mentorship and guidance provided by his father-in-law and parents. Their support instilled in him confidence and business tools that have been pivotal in his professional journey and continue to influence his work ethic and leadership style.

Serving as a foundation for his career, Mr. James's academic background includes a Master of Business Administration from Medaille University, earned in 2009, and a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Buffalo State University, completed in 2001. He also holds a Green Belt Six Sigma certification from Global Business Strategies at the University of Buffalo.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. James is actively involved with several industry-related organizations. He is a founder of the National Society of Black Engineers at Buffalo State University and a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He also holds membership with the Ernst and Young Cohort, the American Federation for Children and a McLeod Fellow with Black Minds Matter.

Mr. James's involvement extends beyond his professional sphere into civic-minded organizations, such as United Way. In his personal life, he enjoys spending time with his family, writing books and cooking. His passion for writing led him to author "Roger That," set to be published in 2025, focused on Roger Strother, one of his mentors. Looking ahead, he aspires to guide others on the right path through a position where he can control his time more effectively. Ultimately, he hopes to have his own board and serve in an advisory capacity within the next decade.
