Mr. Franano has established a distinguished career in environmental science, specializing in hazardous waste site cleanup and management. As a senior environmental scientist, he has led the planning and execution of cleanup operations for large RCRA, CERCLA, and state-led hazardous waste sites across the United States. His expertise in regulatory negotiations and site remedy development has been instrumental in his success.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Franano served as a senior environmental client account and project manager at AECOM from 2008 to 2024. During this time, he managed complex environmental projects, leveraging his extensive knowledge to negotiate effective cleanup plans. From 2004 until 2008, he was a senior environmental scientist and project manager at Arcadis.

Between 1989 and 2004, Mr. Franano began his career as an environmental scientist and project manager with Woodward-Clyde Consultants, which later became URS and AECOM. His early experience directly out of college was on an emergency response team for chemical spills which provided him with a solid foundation in the field. Over five years, he gained hands-on experience managing cleanups of train derailments, airplane crashes and oil leaks as a contractor for the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

In addition to his environmental career, Mr. Franano is a talented songwriter and blues guitarist. Since 2013, he has released eight albums of original music available on platforms like Spotify and YouTube — creative pursuits that complement his technical expertise. Outside his career, he has been actively involved in coaching baseball for both youth and adult leagues for over 15 years.

Laying the groundwork for Mr. Franano's professional accomplishments was his educational background, inclusive of a bachelor's degree in environmental science from the University of Kansas in 1989. He also completed the College for Financial Planning's CFP Program in 1999. He attributes his success to finding a career that never felt like a job, working diligently over many years and having a great mentor (John Moylan) who guided him through the early stages of his professional journey.

Reflecting on his career in environmental consulting, what stands out to Mr. Franano is how expensive, complicated and time-consuming hazardous waste cleanups are and how critical these efforts are in protecting the environment. Throughout his decades of service, he has been involved in cleanup of millions of pounds of contaminated materials and made a real environmental difference.

Looking ahead, Mr. Franano intends to continue his work in cleaning up contaminated sites while mentoring the next generation of environmental scientists. He also plans to pursue his passion for music as part of his personal legacy.
