METTER, GA, February 04, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca F. Black, RDN, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Black, a distinguished clinical instructor and expert in lactation and renal nutrition, has made significant contributions to the field of nutrition and dietetics. She began her career as a clinical dietitian at the Veterans Administration Medical Center from 1982 to 1985. During this time, she was recognized as the Dietetic Intern of the Year in 1982, setting the stage for her future accomplishments.
From 1986 until 1997, Ms. Black served as a nutrition consultant for the East Central Health District, during which time she was acknowledged with the Distinguished Service Award from the Augusta District Dietetic Association. Her work during this period included securing an early grant from the United States Department of Agriculture to launch a breastfeeding promotion program. This initiative addressed low breastfeeding rates among low-income populations through targeted intervention and education. She managed an electric breast pump loan program and designed an automated breastfeeding telephone hotline, which were both instrumental in supporting mothers across a 13-county area.
Ms. Black's expertise further expanded as she took on roles as a renal nutrition consultant at the Medical College of Georgia and as a lactation consultant for public health programs in the state of Georgia. Her dedication to integrating lactation education into various courses at Georgia Southern University, where she served as a clinical instructor between 2004 and 2019, was pivotal. She incorporated lactation education into courses such as nutrition and health, nutrition and diet therapy, and medical nutrition therapy while also engaging in community service work and research on renal nutrition.
Throughout her career, Ms. Black has been actively involved with several industry-related organizations, including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Augusta District Dietetic Association, the Breastfeeding Advisory Committee, the International Lactation Consultant Association, the Central Savannah River Area Breastfeeding Coalition and Toastmasters International. Her commitment to these organizations underscores her dedication to advancing the field of dietetics. In addition, she has committed many years as a Sunday school teacher, reflecting her devotion to her community.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Black is an accomplished author. In 1996, she published four textbooks after securing a grant from the State Public Health to create a comprehensive curriculum for state training. More recently, she authored "In the Red Dress: Addictions, Relationships, and Spirituality in my Bipolar World," published by Covenant Books in 2024. She has also shared her knowledge through numerous speaking engagements on local, state, national and international stages, primarily focusing on lactation.
Laying the foundation for Ms. Black's career was her educational background. She earned a Bachelor of Science in home economics from Georgia Southern University in 1981, graduating with cum laude distinction, followed by a Master of Science in clinical nutrition from Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia in 1996. She also holds certifications as a registered dietitian and certified lactation consultant. Her personal experiences with bipolar disorder have contributed to her success by providing her with heightened energy levels that enabled her to work long days throughout her years as a consultant.
As a volunteer at her local library and church, Ms. Black remains committed to community engagement and mentorship for younger individuals. Looking ahead, she plans to explore new writing projects while continuing her involvement in teaching activities within her community.
