HUNTINGTOWN, MD, February 05, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Daniel "Dan" S. Dayton has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Dayton is a distinguished figure in the field of communication and executive management in both the private and public arenas with a career spanning several decades. He has been instrumental in promoting awareness and understanding of World War I's significance in American history. In 2013, he founded the Doughboy Foundation and now holds the title of founder, and chair emeritus there. His leadership at the Foundation reflects his dedication to preserving the legacy of those who served during the Great War.

From 2015 to 2024, Mr. Dayton served as the executive director of the United States World War I Centennial Commission. Under his leadership, the Commission provided advice and counsel to Congress and the President on matters related to the centennial of World War I. During that period, he was proud to help Americans remember the war's impact on their countrymen through the design and construction of the National World War I Memorial in Washington, and various other national programs and activities. Before his tenure with the commission, Mr. Dayton held significant roles within the federal government.

From 2007 to 2011, Mr. Dayton worked as a senior executive and public affairs officer at the Department of Homeland Security, a position in which he directed corporate communications. Prior to that, he served as director of communications at the Office of Naval Research from 2004 to 2007. Mr. Dayton's expertise in communication was further honed during his time as a communicator at the Navy History and Heritage Command from 2011 to 2012.

Mr. Dayton served in the United States Navy. He enlisted in 1968, and served for 35 years before retiring with the rank of Captain in 2005. For his service and contributions, he received numerous military awards including the Legion of Merit.

Academically, Mr. Dayton holds a Bachelor of Science in English with a major in broadcasting from Emerson College, Boston where he graduated with honors in 1967. His education laid a strong foundation for his successful career in communication and executive management later in life. In reflecting on his career trajectory overall, Mr. Dayton attributes his achievements to his faith in God, his mentors, and the exceptional colleagues he worked alongside throughout his professional journey.

Beyond his esteemed positions, Mr. Dayton is a devoted family man with two children, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys sailing, swimming and outdoor activities. He seeks to continue to offer meaningful contributions to society through historical education and preservation initiatives.
