Providing Mr. Pearson with a robust foundation for his teaching and research endeavors was his extensive educational background, which began with a Bachelor of Arts in policy studies from Dartmouth College in 1980. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University in 1984. In 1987, he acquired a Master of Laws in taxation from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, followed by another Master of Laws in tax from New York University School of Law in 2005.

In addition to his academic roles, Mr. Pearson is an accomplished author with numerous publications to his name. His works include co-authoring "Accounting & Auditing Research: Tools and Strategies" across multiple editions and contributing to various journals on topics such as transfer pricing and corporate governance. His research has been pivotal in advancing understanding within the field, particularly regarding international tax issues and regulatory practices.

Beyond academia, Mr. Pearson has contributed to civic engagement, having served as a judge for high school debates. He is also affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. His dedication to education has been recognized with accolades such as the Accounting Education Award from the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants in 2008 and the Medal for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Hawai'i Board of Regents in 1994.
