While the company focuses on growing cacao for chocolate production, it also raises cows, grows coffee and produces a variety of tropical crops and livestock feed.

Mr. Bencomo's career journey is marked by diverse roles that have shaped his expertise. Prior to reaching his current position, he served as Mahilani's chief executive officer from 2022 to 2023 and held the role of farm and production manager at Lavaloha from 2019 to 2023. His distinguished military service includes positions as an explosive ordinance clearance specialist, combat engineer and geospatial engineer in the United States Army from 2012 to 2023. These experiences have contributed significantly to his leadership qualities and strategic planning skills.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Bencomo is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He serves on the board of directors for the Farmers Association in Hawaii and is involved with the East Hawaii Cacao Association. Also known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, his commitment to agriculture extends to his volunteer work with Ho'ola Farms, where he contributes by packing boxes and teaching classes, as well as his involvement with the Veteran Farmers Service.

Mr. Bencomo's educational background includes coursework at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and the University of New Mexico's Valencia County Campus. He attributes much of his success to having a strong team and supportive partners who have mentored him throughout his career, as well as his wife, who helps him to stay focused and manage stress effectively.

Mr. Bencomo's accomplishments in both the military and the agriculture industry have been recognized through various awards, including the Specialty Coffee Award from the Hawaii Coffee Association in partnership with the International Specialty Coffee Association in 2024 for growing high-quality coffee in Hawaii. He also received the Army Achievement Medal in 2017 and an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) in 2015 for his military service.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Bencomo enjoys spending time with his daughter and maintains an active lifestyle through nature walks and hikes. Looking to the future, his primary goal is to maintain the Hawaii cacao industry's growth, envisioning it as a sector that strengthens the local economy and community. Additionally, he is committed to education and has initiated a program on the farm that invites students to learn about cacao cultivation and chocolate making, promoting economic sustainability alongside academic engagement.
