In his law enforcement career, Mr. Siewert served in various roles at the Louisa County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, where he was an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force detective and digital forensic examiner from 2002 to 2013. In this capacity, he successfully investigated child exploitation cases in and around Virginia, setting a new precedent with his methods and approach. His law enforcement service began in 2000 at the Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department and concluded at the Thomas Nelson Community College Police Department, where he was a sergeant from 2013 to 2014.
Mr. Siewert's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University, obtained in 1999. Complementing his formal education and furthering his expertise, he is credentialed as a National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) Certified Cyber Crime Examiner, a Cellebrite Certified Corporate Investigator and a Cellebrite Certified Operator. He also completed Physical Analyst and Advanced Smartphone Analysis training through Cellebrite, among other programs. Finally, Mr. Siewert is a graduate of the Seized Computer Evidence Recovery (SCERS) training program, which he completed at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), and the United States Secret Service's Basic Computer Evidence Recovery Training (BCERT) program.
Among Mr. Siewert's professional affiliations is his prestigious role as the first vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the High-Tech Cyber Investigation Association (HTCIA 2024-2025). He is also an active member of several other organizations, including the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS).
Throughout his career, Mr. Siewert has been recognized with several awards for his contributions to law enforcement and digital forensics. Notable accolades include his designations as the American Legion Officer of the Year in 2007 and the Crime Solver's Officer of the Year in 2011. He also received the Law Enforcement Meritorious Commendation from the Sons of the American Revolution in 2011.
Outside his professional life, Mr. Siewert is committed to helping dogs in need of rescue whenever possible. He also enjoys writing about current events, trends and topics relating to digital forensics and investigation and publishes regularly on his blog, "The Philosophy of DF/IR." In his personal life, he enjoys riding motorcycles as a hobby and prioritizes spending time with his family in his free time.
