As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Burkhartsmeier has dedicated 45 years to medical technology, establishing himself as a prominent figure in laboratory management and diagnostics. A seasoned expert, he has been the laboratory director at Community Health Clinical Laboratory LLC since 2018 and the president of Collaboratory Resource since 2015. With the latter, he advises clients on legal compliance and business growth opportunities while reviewing critical documents for procedural and compliance approval by medical directors.

An avid student of quality systems (LEAN, Six-Sigma and Total Quality Management (TQM)), he was weaned on Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) corporate training and progressed through later management roles at two Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award-winning integrated healthcare delivery networks, where quality, customer service, technology expertise and operational efficiency are at the core of his skillset.

Working directly under industry pioneers, James B. Peter, MD, PhD, founder of Specialty Laboratories, Inc., Albert Nichols, founder of the Nichols Institute and Richard Porschen, PhD, founder of Microbiology Reference Laboratories (MRL) (now Focus/Quest Diagnostics), cutting-edge technology, esoteric test development, technical marketing, scientific staff development and management skills were learned, first-hand, from the masters of our industry.

Prior to his current roles, Mr. Burkhartsmeier was the administrative director of clinical laboratories at the University of California, Irvine Health, from 2013 to 2015. He also served as the laboratory director at Precision Diagnostics LLC from 2012 to 2013 and was the system director of laboratory services at Sharp HealthCare from 2010 to 2013. His earlier career includes positions such as director of laboratory services at Poudre Valley Health System from 2008 to 2010 and technical director at Pacific Diagnostic Lab from 2007 to 2008.

Mr. Burkhattsmeier's career is marked by significant achievements, including his tenure as chief executive officer and laboratory director at Health Line Clinical Laboratories Inc. from 1995 to 2006. Under his leadership, the laboratory became California's largest clinical lab within four years, employing over 300 individuals statewide. He also co-founded LabDat Inc., where he served as chief executive officer from 1998 to 2005. His early career included night shift supervisor at Westlake Community Hospital from 1994 to 1995 and various directorial positions in laboratory operations.

His journey into medical technology began with his service in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1975, where he trained as a first-class hospital corpsman and medical technologist. This experience ignited his passion for medical technology, leading him to pursue further education and certifications. Mr. Burkhartsmeier holds a Master of Science in medical technology from California State University-Dominguez Hills, earned in 1981, and a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from Washington State University, completed in 1974.

Mr. Burkhartsmeier's professional success is further supported by his certifications as a high-complexity laboratory director through the American Board of Bioanalysis in 1995 and as a Bioanalyst laboratory director by the California Department of Public Health in 1983. His dedication to excellence is reflected in his Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine membership, which has provided him with valuable industry insights and networking opportunities.

Throughout his career, Mr. Burkhartsmeier has been recognized with several awards, including the Pillar Award and Core Award from Sharp HealthCare in 2013, the Navy Achievement Medal from the U.S. Navy in 1975, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation in 1974. These accolades underscore his commitment to advancing laboratory science and improving healthcare outcomes.

Outside his professional endeavors, Mr. Burkhartsmeier cherishes spending time with his family. He remains focused on enhancing the laboratories he currently works with and seeks out additional opportunities where his expertise can make a significant impact. His dedication to his family and profession continues to drive him toward future success in medical technology.
