SUN CITY CENTER, FL, April 18, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Margaret Moore-Hart, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Moore-Hart has had a distinguished career in education. Her tenure as a professor in education with an emphasis on reading and writing at Eastern Michigan University from 1988 to 2010 marked the pinnacle of her professional journey. During this period, Dr. Moore-Hart was instrumental in securing multiple grants that significantly contributed to her research and teaching initiatives. One of her most notable achievements was a grant-funded study aimed at supporting diverse populations struggling with literacy. This study, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, First School and Teachers Program, suggested that the achievement gap in literacy of culturally diverse students and white-identifying students decreased. This study, led to the co-authorship of Multicultural Literacy: Mirroring the Reality of the Classroom, which earned her and her co-author, Dr. Diamond, accolades for excellence.
Before her time at Eastern Michigan University, Dr. Moore-Hart was an assistant professor and the co-director of Clemson University National Writing Project from 1986 to 1988. Her work there laid the foundation for her future educational research and pedagogy endeavors. Her passion for teaching and dedication to improving reading and writing among culturally diverse students and white-identifying students was evident throughout her career, culminating in the publication of Teaching Writing in Diverse Classrooms, K-8: Enhancing Writing Through Literature, Real-Life Experiences, and Technology in 2010.
Dr. Moore-Hart's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in education and French from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, in 1968. Her early experiences teaching first grade in Illinois, and later, French in Cleveland fueled her passion for education. After relocating to Florida, she pursued further studies at the University of South Florida, earning a Master of Arts in early childhood education and teaching in 1983 and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction in 1987. Her doctoral research focused on the impact of computers on elementary students' writing skills, a pioneering study that garnered support from local educational authorities and technology companies.
Throughout her career, Dr. Moore-Hart's contributions extended beyond academia into civic engagement and creative projects. Following the suggestions and ideas in Peter Clark's book, Free to Write, she developed her own Writer's Camp during the summer to enhance teachers' strategies for improving student writing of fourth grade students, especially those struggling with writing, but also any students interested in writing, and teachers from various school districts in the area. The camp's success was marked by the publication of students' writing in anthologies about their experiences and engaging activities at local venues within the community which fostered a love for writing among participants and improved many students' grades in writing the following fall semester.
In retirement, Dr. Moore-Hart continues to embrace her passion for teaching and learning. Specifically, she supports high school students who attend a four day patriotic education conference that develops leadership skills and teamwork, civics, and free enterprise.
Retirement has also allowed her to pursue her passion for art, particularly watercolor painting. Her works have been recognized by prestious societies such as Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society and Florida Watercolor Society.
Outside her professional accomplishments, Dr. Moore-Hart enjoys a fulfilling personal life with her family, including two sons and one daughter. Her love for painting provides a creative outlet that complements her rich history of educational contributions.
