Before specializing in sleep medicine, Dr. Syed was the chief sleep medicine fellow at the Cleveland Clinic from 2017 to 2018. His earlier career included roles as a primary care physician and attending physician in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic from 2011 to 2017, where he also served as an assistant professor at the Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Syed's academic journey laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. He completed a sleep medicine fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic in 2018 after finishing an internal medicine residency program at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in 2008. He earned his MBBS from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center in 2001 and Sindh Medical College in 2000. As a board-certified sleep medicine physician, Dr. Syed attributes much of his success to the influence of his father, a cardiologist who demonstrated the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with patients.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Syed is actively involved in several industry-related organizations. He has been a member of the Sleep Medicine Approval Committee for the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2024 and an item-writing task force member since 2023.
