NEW YORK, NY, April 21, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard G. Kohlenbeck has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With a career spanning over two decades, Mr. Kohlenbeck has established himself as a prominent figure in the field of security management. Currently, he serves as the head of branch security strategy and the senior manager of global workplace services enterprise security at Capital One, a position he has held since 2018. In this role, Mr. Kohlenbeck is responsible for providing physical security across the branch and atm network and developing strategies to protect the company and its customers. Before joining Capital One, Mr. Kohlenbeck was the senior manager of security and fraud at Footlocker Inc. from 2016 to 2018 and the director of corporate safety, security and loss prevention at New York & Company from 2008 to 2016. He began his career at Fifth & Pacific Companies, formerly Liz Claiborne, where he worked as corporate safety and security manager from 2005 to 2008.
Mr. Kohlenbeck's educational background has significantly influenced his professional success. He earned a Master of Arts in information assurance and cybersecurity from Regis University in 2018. In 2014, he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and homeland security from Saint Leo University as an adult learner. He attended classes while raising a family of four and working full time. He has supplemented his formal education with additional training to obtain credentials as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) from ASIS International and a Certified First Responder from the American Heart Association. He also completed courses in basic and advanced interviewing and interrogation techniques through Wicklander Zulawski & Associates and received Mental Health First Aid certification from Mental Health America.
Mr. Kohlenbeck maintains memberships in the Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society, the Delta Epsilon Sigma scholastic honor society, the Pi Gamma Mu honor society, the American Bankers Association Security Committee and the American Society of Industrial Security. His commitment to civic engagement is evident through his involvement with organizations like Downtown Visions, for which he has served on the board of directors since 2019. He has engaged in fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since 2013 and was the lead supporter of the organization's regional annual drive for several years. Mr. Kohlenbeck has received two Philadelphia Awards for his contributions to the region.
Among Mr. Kohlenbeck's most notable achievements is being granted CPP status by ASIS International. To obtain this credential, which is known as the gold standard certification for security management professionals, he met rigorous requirements and passed a notoriously challenging exam. More significantly, Mr. Kohlenbeck's expertise is widely recognized, and he is praised for his ability to implement customer-focused, risk-based security programs. His reputation as an industry leader led to an invitation to join the American Banking Association, where he co-chairs the physical security committee and chairs the membership committee. These roles, which commenced in January 2017 and 2024 respectively, are especially meaningful to him as they allow him to influence industry change at a broader level, working with a committee comprising 20 of the largest banks by volume.
Mr. Kohlenbeck attributes his success to the strong work ethic and honesty instilled in him by his parents who worked hard to establish businesses in their community. His father, a German immigrant who arrived in the U.S. after the war, remained steadfast in his honesty even when doing so placed him in danger due to prejudice toward Germans at the time. Guided by these principles of integrity and perseverance, Mr. Kohlenbeck always strives to evolve and regularly seeks opportunities to learn and improve. He has also benefitted personally and professionally by combining the practical knowledge he gained from his working-class upbringing with his formal education. Finally, he notes the importance of not only believing in oneself but also in others.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Kohlenbeck aims to transform the industry by continuing his work with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to raise awareness of proactive policing and establishing a customer-centric, risk-based model that will set a new standard across the security landscape. This will entail establishing a continuously evolving cross-functional program that integrates technology and human intelligence to provide the proper levels of security. He believes this change should start at the banking level, and despite some resistance, he is confident in the effectiveness of his programs. Mr. Kohlenbeck also hopes to influence local law enforcement by educating legal and community officials about understanding and addressing the root causes of crime. His ultimate goal is to lead industry change in the private sector, which he believes can positively impact the public sector as well.
