/24-7PressRelease/ - Charlottesville, VA, June 4, 2008, Barbara S. Wiggins, Pharm.D., BCPS, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of pharmacy.

Dr. Wiggins is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, a Clinical Instructor for the University of Virginia School of Nursing, and a Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in Cardiology at the University of Virginia Health System Heart Center in Charlottesville, VA. She has 15 years of professional experience and six years of experience as a clinical pharmacist in cardiology for the University of Virginia Health System. She utilizes her expertise in cardiology to monitor patients' drug doses based on laboratory data and concomitant disease states, and makes drug therapy recommendations to the cardiologists. She is also instrumental in developing drug protocols and guidelines for her institution. She attributes her success in these endeavors to her extensive support system.

In addition to holding a Doctor of Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also completed her fellowship in Cardiology and Emergency Medicine, Dr. Wiggins has a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Dr. Wiggins is currently a Fellow of the American Heart Association Council on Clinical Cardiology and a Diplomate of the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology. Additional professional affiliations include the American College of Cardiology-Cardiac Care Associate, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the National Lipid Association, and the Virginia Society of Health System Pharmacists. She holds numerous awards and accreditations, including Board certification as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist with added qualifications in Cardiology, a Junior Alumni of the Year Award from St. Louis College of Pharmacy for Outstanding Leadership and Professionalism, inclusion in the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, and a Merck Award for Clinical Research. She is an active contributor to the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology, where she currently serves as secretary, and to the Southeast Lipid Association and the Cardiovascular Expert Committee for the United States Pharmacopeia, where she serves as a board member. In the future, Dr. Wiggins would like to add to her already impressive credentials by pursuing her MBA.
