As the founder of the California College of Ayurveda, he has dedicated the past 30 years to advancing this ancient healing practice. Dr. Halpern's vision for a career in Ayurvedic medicine began in 1991 following his training as a chiropractor. His efforts since then have been instrumental in building the infrastructure of the profession.
In addition to his role at the California College of Ayurveda, Dr. Halpern is a co-founder of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine. His leadership and expertise have been pivotal in shaping the landscape of Ayurvedic medicine in the country. In the 1990s, he was invited to participate in the Presidential Commissions on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, where he represented data related to Ayurveda.
Dr. Halpern's academic journey began with a Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic-West in Sunnyvale, California, in 1987. He furthered his education with a postgraduate certification in holistic medicine through New York Chiropractic College, where he first encountered Ayurvedic concepts, graduating in 1990.
Before founding the California College of Ayurveda, Dr. Halpern practiced as a Doctor of Chiropractic at Peninsula Chiropractic Center from 1988 to 1991. During this time, he embarked on a personal healing journey after being diagnosed with Lyme disease and experiencing chronic back pain since childhood. This experience led him to explore deeper healing options beyond chiropractic care, ultimately guiding him toward Ayurvedic medicine.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Halpern is an accomplished author and public speaker, authoring "Healing Your Life: Lessons on the Path of Ayurveda," published by Lotus Press in 2011 plus five textbooks in the field of Ayurveda and Yoga. He is also actively involved as a seminar leader, public speaker, and teacher at events, conferences and workshops focused on Ayurveda, yoga, health and wellness. Additionally, he serves as vice president of The HeartWay, a non-profit organization supporting individuals at the end of life.
In his personal life, Dr. Halpern enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife and three children. Looking ahead, he aims to continue writing and teaching with the goal of providing the highest service to humanity through his work in Ayurvedic medicine and Yoga.
