Earlier in her career, Ms. Johnson was a firm associate and project manager at DLR Group between 2007 and 2017. She also worked as a designer and drafter at Owens Design Consultants from 2004 to 2006 and as a contractor at California Living & Energy between 2005 and 2006. Ms. Johnson's early career included roles as the owner and vice president of Caring Companions from 1998 to 2005 and as a junior store planner in the retail sector at Ross Stores Inc. in 1998.

Ms. Johnson's journey began with an associate degree in architecture from Silicon Valley College in 1998, which laid the foundation for her extensive expertise. Additionally, she holds an associate degree in administration of justice from Golden West College since 1984.
