LAYTON, UT, April 30, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles A. Townsend, ENP, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An expert in telecommunications and information technology, Mr. Townsend has served as a senior solutions architect and global account executive at Tyto Athene LLC since 2017. In this role, he leverages his experience in computer and electrical engineering to recommend solutions and design enterprise architectures, primarily relating to voice network systems. Before joining Tyto Athene, Mr. Townsend was a senior solutions architect and global account executive at General Dynamics from 2000 to 2017. His tenure there also included a position as a voice systems architect, where he honed his skills in developing innovative voice-related technologies, including public safety and mass notification systems. His expertise in the field is widely recognized, and he is praised for his ability to integrate complex systems effectively.
From 1993 to 2000, Mr. Townsend worked for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), which provides IT services to the United States military. In 1996, while working with the agency in the Pacific, he was appointed as the chief of voice, secure voice and video networks, operationally reporting to the United States Pacific Command J6. Mr. Townsend led a team of approximately 51 personnel, including senior enlisted, junior officers, civil servants and contractors. This period marked one of his most notable achievements, as he was responsible for all of the agency's voice communications-related operations (the Oahu Telephone System and Hawaii Information Transfer System) and engineering. His efforts in this capacity once earned him recognition as the senior civilian employee of the year.
Mr. Townsend's professional journey began in 1985 when he joined the United States Air Force Civil Service as a system and electrical engineer. He was selected for the Logistics Civilian Career Enhancement Program Cadre. His efforts in this capacity earned him fast-tracking to Senior Executive Service. Throughout his career, Mr. Townsend has proudly supported the U.S. military, contributing to its mission despite not serving in active duty, including work at Al Udeid AB, Qatar, during Gulf War II. His dedication to the armed forces is further reflected in his memberships in organizations such as the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the Air Force Association and the Society of American Military Engineers. Additionally, he was nominated and confirmed as an IEEE Senior Member in 2023.
Mr. Townsend received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a specialization in computer architecture and digital design from the University of California, Davis in 1985. He completed graduate-level telecommunications coursework at the University of Colorado Boulder and graduate-level coursework in business administration at California State University, Sacramento. Mr. Townsend also received certification as an Emergency Number Professional through the National Emergency Number Association. His education has been pivotal in his success, providing him with a strong foundation in engineering principles.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Townsend dedicates his time to mentoring high school and college students, an activity that allows him to share his knowledge and inspire future generations. Additionally, from 2004 to 2018, he served as an alpine official for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association while watching his children develop as Division I alpine ski racers. Having obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth, Mr. Townsend also served as the Boy Scouts of America District Unit Commissioner in California & Utah.
Born at Johnson Air Station in Japan, Mr. Townsend attributes his success to his upbringing as a military child and the lessons gleaned from frequently relocating with his family. Although moving was often difficult, he now recognizes the educational value of periodically adapting to new environments and cultures. Looking toward the future, Mr. Townsend aims to work as a college-level STEM instructor so he can help young engineers enter the field. He believes that a Bachelor of Science degree recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology is crucial for proper development in an IT career, and he hopes his efforts will support aspiring professionals in achieving their goals.
