KNOXVILLE, TN, May 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Justin Hobart, PG, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A project geologist with Nyrstar since 2022, Mr. Hobart has dedicated his career to the exploration and preservation of natural resources, as evidenced by his over 15 years of experience as a field researcher for the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Park Service and as a geologist in the environmental and mining sectors. Currently, he specializes in tasks related to mineral exploration and production for zinc mining, including managing drill campaigns, estimating zinc concentrations from rock samples, 3-D modeling, and assessing and informing underground mining areas. His passion for geology and appreciation for nature are deeply rooted in his upbringing, particularly his father's work as a forester in Mississippi and his mother's role as a science teacher.
Prior to reaching his role at Nyrstar, Mr. Hobart served as a senior staff geologist at Geosyntec Consultants from 2018 to 2022. During this time, he honed his skills in groundwater, soil, and air sampling, environmental site assessments, project coordination, and remediation methods for sites impacted by contaminants. Earlier in his career, he was a head teaching assistant at the University of Mississippi from 2016 to 2018, where he shared his knowledge and passion for geology with aspiring students.
Mr. Hobart's professional journey also includes roles as a hydrologic technician with both the United States Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service from 2014 to 2017 and the National Park Service in 2015. His work at Hot Springs National Park involved monitoring and reporting geothermal water quality parameters, an endeavor that continues to impact the park today. Additionally, he gained valuable experience as a stream and forestry intern in 2017 at Redwoods National and State Parks, where he surveyed the impacts of stream sedimentation that occurred following logging activities in the mid-1900s. His collaboration with the National Park Service remains one of his most valued achievements, reflecting his commitment to preserving natural resources and local history. Before embarking on his geological career, he worked in the hospitality industry with City Grocery Restaurant Group in his hometown of Oxford, Mississippi, from 2009 to 2015.
As a member of industry-related organizations such as the Geological Society of America and The Nature Conservancy, Mr. Hobart actively engages with the geological community. To augment his qualifications, he is certified as a Professional Geologist by the North Carolina Board for Licensing Geologists and as a master naturalist by the National Audubon Society.
Mr. Hobart's educational background includes a Master of Engineering Science in geology and a Bachelor of Science in geology, both earned from the University of Mississippi. His dedication to academic excellence was recognized with the Most Outstanding Graduate Student award by the University of Mississippi's Department of Geology and Geological Engineering in 2018 and the Provost Scholar & Chancellor's Honor Roll in 2014.
Mr. Hobart's promotion of natural resources extends beyond his professional endeavors. He serves as a geology instructor for the Boy Scouts of America and volunteers with TreesKnoxville as a landscape volunteer, combining his vocational passion with active civic involvement. He is also known for his writing accomplishments, which include a professional publication summarizing his research on soil interactions with the potent algae-derived toxin anatoxin-a and an influential work discussing the supervision of physical and chemical water in Hot Springs National Park, published in Geological Society of America Abstracts with Programs in 2015.
In his personal life, Mr. Hobart enjoys gardening and rockhounding during his spare time. Looking to the future, he intends to continue expanding his knowledge of local and regional geologic assemblages and histories. He is eager to embrace opportunities that allow him to work with intriguing natural features, with a long-term goal of joining the Park Service to serve the public further while maintaining an environmentally sustainable future.
