LAWRENCEVILLE, GA, May 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cornel Hagiopol, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An esteemed chemical engineering and polymer science expert, Dr. Hagiopol has dedicated over five decades to advancing the field of applied chemistry. As an independent consultant since 2018, he has provided valuable advice to companies and patent lawyers, leveraging his extensive knowledge and experience.

Dr. Hagiopol's academic achievements laid a strong foundation for his professional success. He earned a doctorate in macromolecular chemistry from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest in 1983 after completing a Master of Science in chemical engineering at the same institution in 1969. His relentless dedication to hard work has been instrumental in achieving his current status as a respected consultant and expert in his field.

Dr. Hagiopol's career began in Romania in 1969 as a chemical engineer at the Petrochim Institute Ploiesti, where he honed his skills in chemical processes and engineering. In 1972, Dr. Hagiopol transitioned to the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry P. Poni, also in Romania, as a scientist. There, he spent five years contributing to groundbreaking research in macromolecular chemistry. His expertise further expanded during his tenure at the Center for Plastic Materials, ICECHIM, from 1977 to 1998, where he played a pivotal role in developing innovative technologies for the synthesis of plastic materials.

Dr. Hagiopol's career took him to the United States in 1998 when he joined Lehigh University as a visiting scientist. This opportunity allowed him to collaborate with leading researchers and broaden his understanding of polymer science. In 2000, he joined Georgia-Pacific Chemicals LLC as a scientist, contributing significantly to the company's research initiatives until 2013. He was then promoted to research fellow, a position he held until 2017.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hagiopol has been recognized for his contributions to applied chemistry and polymer science. He is credited with co-inventing 57 patents in Romania (10) and the United States, including notable patents for adhesive compositions, monodisperse particles for medical diagnostics, technologies in latex coagulation and controlled grafting reaction, paper products made with new wet strengthening agents, and release aids for creeping processes. His work has advanced scientific understanding and created technologies that generate jobs and foster business development.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, his scholarly contributions include authoring or coauthoring technical books and over 100 patents and scientific articles published in international journals. Copolymerization – Toward a Systematic Approach (Springer) was published in 1999. Notably, Dr. Hagiopol had a contribution to the Encyclopedia of Condensed Matter Physics (Elsevier – 2005), then in 2011 co-authored "Chemistry of Modern Papermaking" (CRC – 2011). The book on natural polyphenols from wood was published by Elsevier in 2021.

Dr. Hagiopol's personal life is enriched by his passion for reading and spending time with his family. Professionally, he encourages others to engage with scientific literature, particularly highlighting issues of fraud in scientific publications — a topic he addressed in his review "Scientific truth in a post-truth era," published in 2024 by the Science & Education journal (Springer).
