From a young age, Sheila D. Acevedo Limontas dreamed of becoming a teacher. After receiving a BA in English language education with a minor in Spanish from the University of Central Florida, she began teaching in Orange County, Florida, in 1974. She then earned an MEd in English education and English for speakers of other languages at her alma mater before pivoting to teaching at Florida State University, Palm Beach Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University.
