Mr. Hoffman has built a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors, marked by significant contributions to political campaigns, media relations and freelance writing. Retiring after a long tenure with the federal government in 2002, he embarked on a new path as a freelance writer specializing in arts and entertainment. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including the Washington Blade, Fairfax County Times, Hill Rag, Hollywood Times and Arlington Magazine. As the East Coast correspondent for the Hollywood Times, he continues to explore the vibrant world of arts and entertainment.

Mr. Hoffman's career began with his role as a resident fellow and faculty member in history and humanities at Franconia College from 1965 to 1968. During this time, he directed the college's overseas study program in England. Following his academic tenure, he transitioned into journalism as a staff writer for the Dayton Daily News in 1968 and later for the Cincinnati Enquirer in 1969.

In 1976, Mr. Hoffman played a pivotal role as campaign press secretary and legislative assistant for Edward J. Markey's successful congressional campaign. This experience was a defining moment in his career, contributing to Mr. Markey's long-term political journey as he eventually became U.S. Senator from Massachusetts in 2013. From 1982 to 1984, Mr. Hoffman served as director of congressional and public affairs for the National Center for Appropriate Technology, focusing on renewable energy technology for low-income communities.

Mr. Hoffman's career further expanded when he joined the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in 1984, serving the union as a spokesperson and television producer until 1997. Initially serving as public affairs field coordinator, he was later promoted to associate director of public affairs at their national headquarters in Washington, D.C. He then became the national news media relations bureau chief for Census 2000 at the United States Census Bureau from 1997 to 2002, at which point he retired from full-time employment. Reflecting on his career, he attributes his success to his persistence and his ability to navigate challenges and uncover the truth in journalism.

Mr. Hoffman's academic achievements have significantly influenced his professional journey. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and European history from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1964 and after being awarded a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship he pursued graduate studies at Columbia University, obtaining a Master of Arts in English history in 1969. His academic pursuits continued at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, where he completed a Bachelor of Philosophy in politics and economics in 1968. His coursework toward a Doctorate of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 1970 to 1976 which further enriched his understanding of higher education policy, although he did not complete the degree. He also taught journalism at the university and served as Academic Director of the university's special freshman year Inquiry Program from 1972 to 1976.

Before his collegiate studies, Mr. Hoffman is proud to have worked alongside Senator John F. Kennedy in Omaha as a 17-year-old volunteer in 1960 with Nebraskans for Kennedy. After this experience, he received a package from Washington, D.C., containing Strategy for Peace, a collection of Kennedy's foreign policy speeches, along with a handwritten note from the senator. This unexpected gesture left a lasting impression, marking a defining moment in Mr. Hoffman's early political engagement.

Outside his professional work, Mr. Hoffman is actively involved with civic organizations, such as the Woman's National Democratic Club in Washington, D.C., where he currently chairs the Public Policy subcommittee on the economy. He also held leadership roles within the club itself, which includes both women and men was founded by Suffragists in 1922, as vice president for programs from 2016 to 2017.

In his personal life, Mr. Hoffman cherishes spending time with his family, including his wife and daughter.
