Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Bokhari is a scientist, artist, and visionary with deep expertise in molecular and cell biology, microbiology, oncology, and biotechnology. Her impactful contributions across academic and corporate sectors have advanced life sciences and supported the development of more effective treatments for a range of conditions. Dr. Bokhari has guided clients in the design, validation, and implementation of bioassays to accelerate their diagnostic and therapeutic innovations. Renowned for her unwavering dedication, she approaches her work with both precision and compassion, driven by a clear vision for a healthier, more hopeful world.
Dr. Bokhari's professional career began as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University in the early 2000s, where she honed her skills in cellular and molecular biology with a focus on oncology. She then advanced to the role of senior research associate at the University of Kansas Medical Center from 2005 to 2009, where her focus was microbial pathogenesis and immunology. In 2009, she joined Washington University in St. Louis as a scientist, where she participated in research aimed at understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis. In 2012, she was recruited by EMD Millipore as nucleic acid lead scientist and entrusted with establishing and managing a GLP-compliant genomics services laboratory, effectively translating advanced scientific knowledge into real-world applications within a commercial setting and showcasing her ability to lead complex scientific projects. She also spearheaded an innovative cross-platform validation study in collaboration with multiple departments, aiming to create a distinctive value proposition for the company while driving strategic growth. She then joined MOgene, initially as a principal scientist in 2015, and later as director of business development. Her work at MOgene was particularly challenging as she balanced a cancer diagnosis with professional responsibilities and had to take a leave of absence.
Her academic background is extensive and impressive. Dr. Bokhari earned her Bachelor of Science in chemistry, zoology, and botany from Lahore College for Women University in 1997, followed by a Master of Science in molecular biology and biochemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University in 1998. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology from the Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) affiliated with the University of the Punjab in 2002 and pursued postdoctoral studies at Stanford University School of Medicine in cellular and molecular biology with an emphasis on oncology from 2003 to 2005. Additionally, she completed coursework in leadership and innovation at MIT Professional Education in 2025.
Dr. Bokhari's dedication extends beyond her professional achievements. She has been actively involved with several organizations, including serving on the advisory board for Lindbergh Schools from 2023 to 2025, and volunteering with YMCA West County from 2014 to 2015, where she organized and led a high-impact science summer camp for youth. Her passion for science is also reflected in her membership with the St. Louis Astronomical Society and Chess.com.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Bokhari is an accomplished author and co-author of several scientific publications. Notable works include "Regulation of skin microvasculature angiogenesis, cell migration, and permeability by a specific inhibitor of PKCalpha," published in 2006, "NK cells and gamma interferon coordinate the formation and function of hepatic granulomas in mice infected with the Francisella tularensis live vaccine strain," published in 2008, "Morphine potentiates neuropathogenesis of SIV infection in Rhesus macaques," published in 2011, and "Genomic Biomarkers-EGFR Mutations, Apoptosis & Gefitinib Response: A Model for Integrating Genomic Biomarkers Into Successful Precision Medicine, Drug Development & Delivery," published in 2013.
Outside of her career, Dr. Bokhari enjoys spending time with her twin boys and engaging in creative pursuits such as painting and writing. Her personal experiences have inspired her to write a book aimed at helping others understand cancer treatment on a molecular level while maintaining accessibility for those unfamiliar with scientific jargon. Her resilience and positive outlook continue to inspire those around her as she balances family life with her professional commitments.
