Her previous tenure as HUD regional administrator from 2017 to 2021 allowed her to implement significant housing initiatives across various states, contributing to improved living conditions for countless families.
In her legal career, Ms. Cleveland-Leggett filled positions as an attorney at Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine from 2013 to 2017 and Baudino Law Group for the preceding six years. During this time, she honed her expertise in legal matters related to housing and community development.
Ms. Leggett's early legal journey saw her in roles as an attorney at law at Hunton & Williams LLP from 1993 to 1995 and as an associate attorney at A Fortson Law Firm LLC from 1989 to 1993. She is very proud of her contributions as an administrative executive and legislative review committee co-counsel for the Maryland General Assembly from 1986 to 1989, where she drafted the "Bond Bill Manual 1989." Her foundational experiences as a law clerk at various institutions laid the groundwork for her distinguished career.
Educationally, Ms. Leggett's achievements include a Juris Doctor in international law and legal studies from Boston University School of Law in 1984 and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Oakwood University in 1981. Additionally, she holds an associate degree in communications and history. She was originally inspired to be a lawyer through moot court proceedings organized by a high school teacher. Her education is complemented by a senior manager in government certification from Harvard University in 2019, enhancing her leadership capabilities within governmental roles. She is admitted to practice law in Ohio and Georgia.
Ms. Leggett's dedication extends beyond her professional endeavors into civic engagement, focused on adult literacy. Ms. Leggett is also proud of contributing to The Walk on Union Memphis Consortium Development Team as a strategic advisor to the largest mixed-use Opportunity Zone Developmental Project in the nation. Outside of her professional life, Ms. Leggett enjoys playing tennis, skiing and spending time with her family.
