Dr. Ferro, an esteemed medical professional with many years of experience, currently serves as the vice president and head of medical affairs for North America at Sun Pharma. In this role since 2023, he manages a diverse team of scientists who represent the company across the United States, providing evidence on product functionality in the real world. He is responsible for publishing and presenting data generated by his team and strategizing to enhance product treatment patterns for the benefit of patients. His expertise across many medical specialties has been instrumental in his success, earning him recognition over the years such as Employee of the Year and several teaching awards.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Ferro was the head of respiratory for U.S. medical at Sanofi from 2020 to 2023, during which time he led initiatives in asthma, COPD and rhinitis. Previously, he served as the vice president of NASH medical strategy at Intercept Pharmaceuticals.

From 2017 to 2018, Dr. Ferro was the global medical lead for tezacaftor-ivacaftor at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, contributing to advancements in cystic fibrosis. Earlier in his career, he held the position of vice president and global medical affairs lead for respiratory and e-connectivity at Teva Pharmaceuticals between 2015 and 2017 and served as the medical director of clinical development at GSK from 2007 until 2013.

Beginning his career in academia, Dr. Ferro was an assistant and then associate professor at the Albany Medical College from 1986 to 1998. He was then appointed professor of internal medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 1998. His early research focused on inflammatory mechanisms of acute lung injury with a particular focus on endotoxin, tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin-2.

Laying a strong foundation for Dr. Ferro's career achievements is his educational background. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and completed his Doctor of Medicine at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in 1980. He subsequently pursued a residency in internal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis between 1980 and 1983 and completed fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Ferro is actively involved with professional organizations such as the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. He also contributes to civic-minded organizations, serving on the educational board of the American Skin Association and volunteering at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church.
