HOLLYWOOD, FL, May 09, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jose Alejandro Rodriguez, MBA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With 29 years of experience as a customs broker, Mr. Rodriguez has been the director of global trade operations for international logistics and trade operations in the Americas at Cardinal Health since 2024. In this role, he oversees complex logistics and trade compliance processes, ensuring efficient and effective operations across the region. Before joining Cardinal Health, Mr. Rodriguez worked at Cargill as a trade compliance excellence Associate Director for the North American region, a position he held from 2021 to 2024.
Mr. Rodriguez honed his expertise in customs compliance during his tenure at DHL Express, where he served as the director of customs compliance for the Americas from 2018 to 2021, the director of import and export programs in 2018 and the senior manager of broker reviews from 2016 to 2017. He spent eight years at Covidien, where he was the senior manager of transportation and trade compliance from 2008 to 2016. His earlier career included roles as a logistics operations manager at Kuehne + Nagel from 2006 to 2008 and as a business development and marketing executive at Delmar International Inc. from 2005 to 2006. He was the Miami branch manager at Barthco International from 2003 to 2005 and an operations manager at Senator International from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Rodriguez entered the industry in 1996 as a U.S. customs broker for Danzas AEI Emirates, remaining in this role until 2000.
Mr. Rodriguez's educational background has been pivotal in his career success. He began his academic journey with two associate degrees, one in computer science and the other in business administration. Receiving his associate degrees held special significance for Mr. Rodriguez since his grandmother was alive to celebrate his accomplishment at the commencement ceremony. He continued his educational pursuits, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the Albizu University Miami Campus, formerly the Miami Institute of Psychology, in 2001 and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 2003. Mr. Rodriguez cites receiving his MBA as his most notable achievement since he succeeded in doing so during a particularly intense period in life, balancing work, school and family.
Mr. Rodriguez's career path was influenced by his upbringing and early work experiences. Although he was born in the United States, he identifies strongly with his Cuban background. His mother risked a great deal to immigrate to the U.S. and, upon her arrival, worked hard to support her family. She often held three jobs at once, leaving the young Mr. Rodriguez in the care of his grandmother, who taught him strong values and discipline. Since his mother could not support the family financially on a single income, Mr. Rodriguez began working at 15, holding various jobs while still attending school.
After getting married and becoming a father, Mr. Rodriguez realized he wanted to pursue more lucrative career opportunities, so he returned to school. He earned two associate degrees and began working in a warehouse for a freight forwarding company, managing an area that required U.S. customs control. There, he met his mentor, Luis Irizarry Sr., who encouraged him to obtain a U.S. customs broker license. The licensing exam is difficult, with a 3% pass rate, but Mr. Rodriguez passed after six months of preparation. He is grateful to Mr. Irizarry for introducing him to a field in which he would excel and for providing a reference for him with U.S. customs.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Rodriguez is actively involved in industry-related organizations. He serves on the board of directors for the Freight Forwarders Association and Florida Customs Brokers, contributing his expertise to advance industry standards and practices. He was also a teacher at Florida National University, where he shared his knowledge and experience with students aspiring to enter the field of logistics and trade operations.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Rodriguez aspires to expand his career by working in Europe, where he obtained citizenship through his father, who was a merchant marine for the Cuban government. By leveraging his industry expertise and newly acquired citizenship, he hopes to pursue higher-level positions within the industry, ultimately advancing to a vice-president role.
